About Heidi Yoder

Heidi is the founder and lead designer of Smithland Custom Interiors.

My mother introduced me to sewing at a very young age.  She not only taught me how to follow the instructions on a pattern but also how to think creatively to come up with my own fabrication methods and pattern designs. I spent years creating clothing and handmade gifts.

It was after high school while assisting a family remodeling a 1790’s historical home that I discovered a passion for fabricating soft furnishings for interiors. I began working with a local decorator and soon after met and fell in love with her drapery installer, Brent. He has been an invaluable part of my business since day one.

The only way to keep a good installer is to marry him! Brent often waits to hear if I introduce him as my husband or my installer to know if he is “in the dog house” or not.

I am passionate about creating design solutions that allow my clients to fully live in and love their homes.

I personally work with clients to create window treatments that function as well as add to the ambiance of the home, reflecting their individual style.

I have taken courses through the former Custom Home Furnishings Academy, attend the annual Custom Workroom Conference and am actively involved in the Richmond chapter of the Window Coverings Association of America, where I have served as co-president.

Since its start as a to-the-trade workroom in 2001, Smithland Custom Interiors has grown to include a full line of blinds and shades, as well as a design library of fabric, trim and hardware selections. Our clients include homeowners, designers and businesses that want high quality professional treatments combined with personal service. Along with our large network of industry professionals, we are ready to assist with your next window treatment or soft furnishings project.

Together, let’s create beauty!
